This week I am very pleased to introduce you to our first male guest, Jim from Mr & Mrs Romance. Some of you may know of Jim from Christina over at Hair Romance, but did you know that he writes too! I love visiting this website, it is full of travel, recipes and finding the romance in the everyday. Without further ado, let’s find out what Jim’s five favourite things are!
Spending time with my wife
I always knew I liked Mrs Romance. But now we work together too, we spend an enormous amount of time together.
People think it’s surprising we’re still talking to each other let alone still married. But you know what, she’s my best friend, so why wouldn’t I want to spend as much time with her as possible?
It doesn’t seem to matter where we are or what we’re doing, we always seem to have fun. I think that’s the secret to our relationship.
We do travel a lot, and we love it. I met Mrs Romance when I was travelling in Australia, so it stands to reason that travel’s close to my heart.
It’s just the best feeling when you’re in a completely new place, exploring it, getting to know it, finding out its idiosyncrasies.
Travel is enlightening and my creative side is really inspired when we’re on the move… it also brings me in touch with awesome food!
I can’t tell if it’s because or in spite of the fact that we don’t have a car that I like driving so much. We live right in the city, so being a car owner isn’t really necessary. But when we travel, it’s always me that makes a grab for the keys.
I even enjoy driving on the right hand side of the road and I really dig parking too. One day I’d like to start a parking academy to help lost souls parallel park properly!
Cigars (and whisky)
I have a pretty darn fine collection of Cuban cigars going. It’s probably something to do with the difficulty in finding cigar-friendly venues, but sitting back with a fine cigar and chewing the fat with my mates is perfection.
One of the absolute highlights for me on our recent trip to Cuba was the day we spent exploring the tobacco fields of Vinales. I got to watch a tobacco farmer hand roll a cigar, which he then gave me to smoke as we continued our hike. Amazing.
Couple that with a large glass of Lagavulin 16-year-old scotch and I’m in heaven!
A really good burger
There are few things on this earth better than a really good burger. I’m not talking about a dirty late-night Hungry Jack’s or a road-trip drive through Macca’s.
I’m talking artisan patty, homemade sauce, real cheese, generous pickle work and a soft, tender brioche bun.
Couple that with a nice IPA and we’re going places!
I’m still searching for the ultimate burger – thankfully it’s always going to be a work in progress!
Thanks so very much Jim, I loved this list. I often find myself sitting at school pick up laughing at people trying to parallel park their cars – the most entertaining are the ones that readjust about ten times and then give up and drive off. While I’m not a cigar person myself I love the sound of how immersed your tour in Cuba was. And you get extra kudos for having a true Aussie burger with beetroot on it! Thanks for joining in. If you haven’t been to visit Mr & Mrs Romance yet, please do, you won’t be disappointed.
What’s on your #myfridayfavourites list this week?
Have you found the ultimate burger?
