This week my special guest for My Friday Favourites is Bec, the face behind The Plumbette, a blog about more than just plumbing, it is a personal account of life and family and well worth a read. I love that when I asked Bec to share her five favourite things with me that she decided to share her favourite moments instead, and they are five very special moments too.
The Plumbette’s Five Favourite Moments
I have so many favourite moments in my life, it was hard reducing it to just 5, but they all include 5 favourite things in my life, so I thought I’d share them with you today.
Favourite Moment 1: When I married my best friend
Jacob and I started dating soon after I finished year 12. My school formal was officially our first date and the only thing I knew about Jacob was that he was good looking and went to my church. We’ve been together for 14 years, married for over 10. He’s the most supportive and loving husband I could have ever asked for. He’s also a wonderful dad to our three girls.
Favourite Moment 2: Becoming a mum – three times.
I couldn’t choose 1 favourite birth – I don’t have one so I’m going to be sneaky and turn 3 favourite moments in the one. Having a baby was surreal for me. One minute they are in your tummy and the next they are out. All three of my c-section deliveries were very similar and all my girls looked similar to each other. I feel like I have been looking at the same baby face for the past 4 years! But as each of my girls have grown, they have shaped into their own unique person and look like they belong to the same family. I look at them with pride and wonder. Being a mum is an incredible privilege. But that moment in recovery after they were delivered, when I would have each of the girls on my bare chest are memories I will treasure forever.
Favourite Moment 3: Finishing my plumbing apprenticeship.
I remember finishing my last exam and that feeling of relief washing over me and being proud that I had stuck it out and could get my plumbing license. I remember after finishing that last exam, my class headed to the Breakie Creek Hotel to celebrate. Some of the teachers came to celebrate with us. One of the guys in my class made an unexpected toast to me which had the whole table of blokes stand up and clap in congratulations for making it through. They didn’t make my time easy but being recognized by my peers was overwhelming and encouraging.
Soon after finishing that last exam, I was named the Dux Australian Plumbing Apprentice of the year in 2009 and then three weeks later I was presented with the Judges Most Outstanding Achiever award for my contribution to the Constructing Industry. The way to explain that award was like winning the gold logie but for the Construction Industry in QLD. And then 3 weeks after that I found out I was pregnant with Esther.
Favourite Moment 5: Kidspot Voices 2014 Awards
The Plumbette winning the Healtheries Sponsor Challenge at the Kidspot Voices of 2014 Gala. It was such a fabulous night. The main reason I attended because I missed the master class at the beginning of the year where the top 100 blogs had been announced and I wasn’t sure how big a deal it was until I realized it was a pretty awesome achievement. Heading to the Gala was my Christmas Party for the blog. I was more excited to meet bloggers in Melbourne and when my name was called I screamed because I didn’t expect to win nor did I feel worthy to win. My runner up prize by Garnier was also unexpected. But it proves plumbing and beauty can co-exist. As clichéd as it sounds, winning those awards were what I needed to show me I was on the right track writing my blog after the many changes and challenges I had faced earlier that year.
Thank you so much for sharing your favourite moments with us Bec. Be sure to drop by her blog to say hello.
