I have been getting back into my quiet craft time and crochet is the perfect winter craft. You can snuggle up on the couch at night and watch back to back episodes of Orphan Black or Orange is the New Black while you fiddle away. Or grab a cuppa and sit in the sunshine for a few minutes. I don’t know why, but I always seem to reserve my crochet endeavours to the colder months. I love to spend five minutes either creating something or searching Pinterest for some inspiration, it always makes me happy.
I have been so proud of my little prep kid and the leaps and bounds that she is making in learning to read. She now happily sits up in bed or will find a cosy place to lay down and she reads all by herself! So I thought I’d sit in my quiet time and make her this adorable little flower bookmark to help her keep her place. I love that she is a book worm because I am too and have been doing a lot of reading at night snuggled up under the blankets. This was so easy to make, if I can do it anyone can!
Crochet Flower Bookmark
To make the leaf and stem:
Ch 7, sc in the second ch from hook, hdc in the next, dc in next 2, hdc the next and sc in last, ch 1.
Don’t turn it but work into the other side of the leaf.
Sc in the second ch from hook, hdc in the next, dc in next 2, hdc the next and sc in last, ch 1.
Chain until it is as long as you want it, finish off.
Join the flower to the stem. Attach any buttons or decorations as desired.
Kids Simple Crochet Craft
I don’t always get a quiet moment to sit and craft so I have to find ways of letting my girls join in, especially on a rainy day. We have also been making some pom pom garlands because they are fun, easy and bright and colourful. My daughter made her own pom poms and then did a simple chain stitch crochet string to tie them on to.
There are plenty more little projects that I want to make and a couple that I already have on the go. I thought I would have finished them by now but life has gotten in the way, and I’m ok with that. If you check out my Pinterest board I’m sure you will see a few of the ideas I am thinking about.
Do you know what, this bookmark and the pom poms aren’t just for kids! Just like colouring in is no longer just for kids! Yes, my other relaxing activity I have been doing is adult colouring in. I finally got on the bandwagon and bought one of these books, and you probably saw on Instagram that I am actually really enjoying it. My daughter spied it one day and fell in love and requested one for her birthday (because I didn’t want to share mine)! I have heard you can even get adult dot to dot, have you seen these?
What sort of creative things do you love to do in the Winter months?
