Modern Mummy Mayhem

This week I have asked Gayel from Modern Mummy Mayhem to share her favourite things with us. Her blog always makes you feel at ease because she keeps it real and that is what I love about her site.

Gayel Modern Mummy MayhemWow, I never get asked to do these things. Such an honor, it truly is. To start with my mind went blank when thinking about my 5 Favourite Things. I considered my ridiculous dance video I made for my blog followers once. I considered my cat Tom Yum, who constantly craves canaries. Notably my Husband’s pet canaries. Then I thought about my morning coffee and how it keeps me sweet. Then morning tea with my mate at work popped up too, which is possibly the only real reason I enter my workplace.

Then I scrapped all of those and came up with the following, for they are the reasons I roll out of bed early every day and close my eyes late at night.

1. My Family and Friends

Without my gang, I couldn’t do what I do. I work part time; I own a small business and I blog, plus help to run a home and be their Mum and Wife. They are forever lifting me up, pushing me along, giving me plenty to write about and teaching me much about life. When it seems like, the universe is falling apart my family and close friends are my rocks. I just hope I give them back as much in the heart as they give me.

My Readers and Followers of MMM

No matter what time I drop in on them, whether that be via social media or a blog post, they are about. They comment, they relate, they tell me their stories, they make me laugh and most of all, they are friends I haven’t met in real life yet. Seeing some of those names pop up that were there in the early days, absolutely makes my day. Some have actually become friends in real life, and I cherish them. The people in the community of MMM absolutely rock it and are an absolute asset to me and others that also follow.

2. Old Stuff and Junk Shops

I love old things. Not excluding my Husband. We are currently in the throws of renovating a Post War Queenslander. It isn’t pretty at all, and I often question why we chose to go down this track with a young family. But then I look at more modern homes and realize they just aren’t me. I love memorabilia from the past. Quirky things the masses have discarded as being out of trend, are my trend. I have a little thing about antlers and knight’s in shining armour at the moment. I have written about my junk shop finds plenty over on the blog and often Instagram my finds. My Husband is my partner in crime when it comes to old stuff and junk shops. I can justify most purchases to him … all except my Knight In Shining Armour. At $1800, he isn’t keen on providing a home to a life-size tin man.

3. The Ocean

I grew up by the sea. My heart still lives there. My body lives in a dusty rural town in Queensland. I love boating and fishing. Which could be why my Husband fell in love with me, seeing he often finds my humor odd. One day I will return, but at the moment we are making the most of the trees around us and the lovely country people we share our town with. I also have a penchant for nautical junk shop finds. For one day .. when I live by the sea, that old brass telescope shall come in handy.

4. Social Media and Blogging

Can I imagine what life was like prior to Social Media? Yes, I can but only just. I think prior to Social Media I was driving my bestie nuts getting her to teach me to sew. These days, I love helping small business’ to embrace social media and drive content to their websites with awesome words. I hope very very soon for this little business I have to be my full-time job for I want more job flexibility with my kids. It is my Number 1 goal right now.

5. Accessories

I cannot live without the darn things. If you looked in my handbag right now, you would find a spare bracelet and necklace for those just in case moments where I forget to complete my outfit. I am forever seeking out different pieces to dress up my clothes and give different looks. I am not one to spend a lot on my clothing but instead use a fabulous pair of earrings or necklace to bring the fabulous to any outfit. If I had to run with all my cherished possessions, I would have kids under my arms and jewels around my neck.

Thanks for joining in for My Friday Favourites Gayel, even though you tried to sneak in six things (I combined the first 2 because blogging is family) I will let you get away with it because it is a great list and I know how hard it can be to share just five. I am sure that living away from the ocean makes it all the more special when you return. Be sure to visit Gayel’s amazing blog Modern Mummy Mayhem and say hello.

What is on your #myfridayfavourites list? Do you love a good junk shop? I know I do.
