My Friday Favourites: Erin Made This

The week that was on mybrownpaperpackages

It has been another exciting week in my little part of the world. On the weekend I spent 24 hours away from my kids so that my husband and I could celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was fabulous.  I think that spending quality time together, uninterrupted, is one of the 5 keys to a happy relationship. We stayed somewhere locally but we all wanderlust for different destinations far and wide and this week I shared one place that I have had a long time crush on, and even after visiting I still want to go back. And this weeks recipe was a veggie smuggling sweet treat that the whole family can enjoy. Mini choc chip & zucchini bites are delicious little muffins that are likely to be gobbled straight away but they also freeze well for lunch boxes. Remember, you can subscribe to my monthly newsletter so you don’t miss anything and get a free wallpaper each month.

To round out my sunshiney week I have the pleasure of introducing you to Erin. Erin is a creative soul who teaches kids to cook, sew and use technology so it seems natural that she would extend her passion to her blog Erin Made This.

Thanks so much Malinda for having on your blog today. I love reading everyone’s favourite things each Friday and so happy that this Friday it’s me!

I have always loved taking photos. I have snaps from film cameras of when I was in Primary school. I am pretty sure I was just copying my sister {who is an amazing photographer!} but it has grown into one of my greatest loves.

I definitely love taking photos of food but I also love to take photos of people. I am always reading, researching and practicing so I can get better, too.

The creativity of cooking is what I like most. Whether it’s throwing some dinner together at 5pm, or planning something extravagant for weeks on end, it never ceases to amaze me of how creative and meditative the entire cooking process is.

This is definitely a new favourite thing, but it’s safe to say I am obsessed. It all began with Serial but they have slowly taken over my life. I love This American Life and Gimlet. For all you foodies: The Dinner Special and Spilled Milk are so great.

Brenè Brown

If you haven’t heard of Brenè, I suggest you start by watching her TED Talk {another favourite thing!}, then go off and read all her books.

Her message about Daring Greatly is something that has stuck with me since I discovered her. I try to live by it each day. This isn’t always easy, but what is life without courage?

Her new book, Rising Strong, has literally changed my life. Run, don’t walk.

Food Blogs

I of course love writing my blog, but I get so inspired reading other blogs. I love to see how other people put recipes together and style them.

Some Aussie favourites are Cook Republic, The Swirling Spoon, Local is Lovely, Erika Rax and so many more. Internationally, I am obsessed with My Name is Yeh, Manger, Hungry Girl Por Vida and Apt 2B Baking Co.

Thanks so much for your fabulous list Erin, and all of your drool worthy images – so hungry now! Your creativity in the kitchen is only equal to your amazing photography of those creations. I have a stack of recommended podcasts ready for me to listen to, and will no doubt add these to my list, but I just never get around to them. But those foodie blogs I will definitely check out. If you haven’t yet, be sure to say hello to Erin over at her blog Erin Made This.
