I am very excited to announce that today’s guest is Erin from the acclaimed blog Travel with Bender. Erin has been travelling with her husband and two children since May 2012. It’s an open-ended, unplanned, round-the-world trip discovering amazing places for young children and parents alike. They have stayed in hostels and 5 star luxury resorts, travelled on scooters and cruise liners, danced with leprechauns and cuddled tigers. Nothing is out of bounds or out of reach for this remarkable Australian family. You can find unique family travel insights at her award-winning travel blog, follow her on Facebook, or catch her tweeting on Twitter. But today, you can read her favourite things right here. Welcome to Friday Favourites Erin.
These are a few of my (very random) favourite things.
Everyone knows the song from Sound of Music “…whiskers on kittens, brown paper packages tied up with string….These are a few of my favourite things.” Funnily enough I often use this song on my 5-year-old daughter when trying to distract her from an urgent toilet demand. So in completely random order here are a few of my favourite things at the moment.
Resort style accommodation for $40 per night
We are nomadic travellers so when we find accommodation at a great price we are thrilled, but when it happens to be family accommodation with all the add-ons it’s even better. Here’s our place currently in Bulgaria. It’s a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with fast wifi, 3 pools, 2 playgrounds, a restaurant, supermarket, security, air-conditioning, heating, linen service and more. It’s 5 minutes walk to the beach and it’s only $40 per night. Nice!
30 MBps internet
Australia has pretty bad Internet speeds. And hotels aren’t known for offering you the best you can get. But there are some places where fast wifi is just normal. Bulgaria offers the top 5 fastest Internet speeds in the world and when I saw those numbers flash on my speedtest I was in heaven. You can do anything with fast Internet and better yet your work gets done that much faster so there is more time to play.
Deserted beaches with no one on them
Beaches make everyone happy. Watching my kids play for hours with no toys and no electronics just makes me smile. Having a beach all to myself is also a special kind of heaven. Especially when it’s right outside your front door.
Home grown, organic food like a fresh Greek salad
During a recent visit around the Greek Islands we found lots of restaurants growing their own produce from vegetables to fruit, and even meat and the taste was tangible. A Greek salad made with organic fresh cucumbers and tomatoes straight from the garden, topped with home-made feta cheese is to die for and now one of my favourite things.
Hugs with my husband, hugs with my kids, kids hugging each other or hugs with a friend. There is nothing as warm as a hug, nothing as comforting as a hug and nothing as satisfying as a hug.
Thanks for sharing Erin, even though I am envious of your fast (poolside!) internet and low cost accommodation! Though I do get an abundance of hugs in my home and I love them too. Another great top 5 list from another great blogger. Share with us, what are your favourite things this week? Join us here, on Facebook or follow the conversation on Twitter with #myfridayfavourites.
