Wanderlust Budapest & Linky

Wednesday Wanderlust Budapest, Hungary

Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is often referred to as the city of spas with over 100 springs bubbling up into the city, with this many I am sure that there is a bath to suit everyone. Like the Szechenyi Baths (Image: Naamsvermelding vereist) at the northern end of City Park with 15 indoor pools and 3 outdoor pools it looks bright and clean and at 38C water it is open year round, so this would be first on my must do list for project Wanderlust Budapest.

This is a city with plenty of culture and history to explore, starting with the 300 foot dome of St Stephen’s Basilica. Then there is Fisherman’s Bastion (Halaszbastya) which reminds me of a Disney fairytale castle, perched on a hill it is said to have great views of the city below. I think I’d also have to visit the Royal Palace, rebuilt over and over again it is now home to a couple of museums and a library. (Top Image: Maurice. Bottom Image: Bergadder)

And while I don’t like to end on a low note, I cannot help but mention the shoes on the Danube Promenade Memorial which I think would be haunting, a very effective reminder of the terrors of the Halocaust. For those who don’t know if this, it was here that Jews were asked to remove their shoes before being shot so they could fall into the river and be swept away. A memorial has been erected here with 60 pairs of shoes sculpted onto the riverside. (Image below: Bergadder)

Have you ever been to Budapest?
Would you like to have a hot spring bath?
