Wanderlust Link Party & Philippines

Wednesday Wanderlust Philippines

A couple of weeks ago I came across this photo below on Instagram (@placeofyourdreams) and haven’t been able to get it out of my head.

Beautiful, yes? It is in the Philippines. With over 7000 islands, the Philippines is a strange mix of isolated stretches of beach, teeming cities, green rice fields and centuries old stone buildings, who wouldn’t want to travel here, there is something for everyone.

While it isn’t the cheapest of Asia’s countries to travel to it is still great value by Western standards. $1AUD is about 37 Pesos (not the Mexican variety!!). I have been told that you can travel here for about 2000 Pesos a day, that’s about $55 for your accommodation, meals, activities and transport! You can easily get return flights for less than $1000 at the moment. Obviously you will be paying more than these prices for the luxury standards that we all love to drool over.

Rather than babble on about all the things I see and do, I’m going to let some pictures do the talking for me.

As for when to go, I would carefully consider which area I was travelling to as the weather can be very different on flip sides of the islands. While it would be high season, I’d most likely go in the first half of the year (January to May) to avoid typhoon season (June to December). But if you are thinking of travelling here this Easter, be quick, they book out months in advance despite the prices tripling.

Wanderlust Philippines Food

Ok, I can’t not mention the food, because, well, food. I’d try Sinigang (hot and sour soup with tamarind, lime and coconut milk), Lumpia (spring rolls),Ukoy (prawn fritter), Pancit Palabok (noodles), Pork Adobo (braised pork) Chicharon (fried pork rinds) and Bibingka (coconut cake), Cassava Cake, and I better stop there I suppose.

So who’s in, Philippines anyone?
