Wanderlust St Petersburg & Linky
Wanderlust St Petersburg, Russia
St Petersburg is the second largest city in Russia and has changed names several times (to Petrograd, Leningrad and back to good old Saint Petersburg again!). Often in the shadow of Moscow, this city is now beginning to shine.
My Wanderlust St Petersburg is because I want to envelope myself in the cultural collections – the Hermitage, the ballet, and classical concerts. (Image: Russian Ballet)
Have you ever heard of ‘White Nights’? There are a few weeks every year (around June) which see the nights bathed in a pearlescent light as the sun barely dips below the horizon. Festivals and concerts abound at this time of the year which I think would be just amazing to experience. (Image: Nemonic)
And of course, it almost goes without mentioning, but I’d love to see the St Petersburg cathedral. Called the Church on the Spilled Blood since it was built where Emperor Alexander II was wounded and died its medieval architecture fascinates me. With over 7500 square meters of mosaics it was painstakingly restored over 27 years and has reopen to the public in 1997. (Image: A Corbis)
Have you seen the St Petersburg cathedral in person?
Would you go to the Ballet?
