DIY Kids Ice and Heat Pack
We had a little fall in the backyard today and so we pulled out our ice pack to sooth the pain of the skinned elbow. These handy little ice packs are just the right size for kids elbows, knees and foreheads. They are soft and easily mould to the body. And they can be used hot or cold making them great for just about any ailment that your kids can come up with. Great huh?! Well, it’s just rice. Yep, plain rice sewed into a little pouch of cotton material. I keep mine in a ziplock bag in my freezer so they are ready to go as an ice pack at a moments notice. But if you pop it in the microwave ,with a cup of water beside it, it instantly turns into a heat pack. The time it needs depends on the size of your pack and how hot your kids can handle.
I made little cases for mine too. I find this handy for three reasons. It not only makes them more appealing to kids but it helps provide a buffer from the direct heat or cold and if it gets dirty with blood or backyard grime I can take the cover off and wash it. You obviously can’t wash the little bag of rice or its ruined. The cases are just a basic little pillowcase style that I made out of some scrap material I had.
We made two sizes for different size bumps and bruises and apparently the amount of pain can also dictate if we need to use the big or little one. You could even make an adult size one.
This DIY kids ice and heat pack is super cheap and easy, everyone should have a couple in their freezer.
