Vivre a Vie Bakery
How did I not notice this before?! Spotted when zooming along the GC Highway one day was a sweet little store front that was seafoam green with grey brick, big glass windows opening into a cosy looking little bakery. Mentally pinned to return. The perfect opportunity finally came up one morning when my husband had a late start at work.
Being on the GC Highway, parking can be a bit of a mission. If you are lucky you will score a roadside 2 hour park, otherwise there is parking behind the Chinese Restaurant a few doors up or you could park across the road in the small shopping centre carpark.
Out the front is a beautiful bench and an olive tree, these are apparently placed outside as the signal that they are open. Welcome to Vivre a Vie Bakery and Cafe.
Vivre a Vie is an organic bakery that serves up delicious specialty treats and drinks that are free from all the nasties (artificial colours, flavours, preservatives, pesticides and chemicals). They call these ‘thoughtful food’ because we should all be aware of what we put in our bodies. I like the sound of that. Not only can you enjoy the deliciousness there, you can buy it to take home.
Inside the cafe is very cosy and inviting and we are immediately drawn to the cake counter. It was a colourful display and hard to choose. We ended up with three different treats to share – a raw blueberry & lemon cheesecake and a snickers (both gluten, dairy and sugar free!) and an eclair profiterole along with the obligatory coffee and babycinos. Though I almost ordered a fresh juice, but I will save that for next time when I hope to go back around lunch time so I can try their sandwiches, salad and soup. Or maybe a pie!
We then made our way down a narrow path beside the cafe to the large open garden out the back. The first thing you notice is that there is plenty of seating, including a couple of kids tables and room for them to run and play. They even have a tub full of toys to keep them occupied while you sit back and relax without the worry of them escaping anywhere. The garden is also edged with lots of fresh produce being grown on site for the bakers and chefs to use in the cooking.
The food was incredible. The profiterole simply dissolved in my mouth, the blueberry cheesecake had just the right balance of lemon in it and the snickers was delightfully decadent. The kids loved them all too and we scraped the plates clean.
We were very impressed that their takeaway cups and napkins were all completely biodegradable and compostable with a little message on the cups to reuse it to grow a plant in it. A great idea to give back to the earth, rather than just taking away from it.
I look forward to coming back to this great little organic bakery and cafe. If I was on my own I would love to set myself up inside but the back garden is perfect for playdates. This place is a real winner. It is fairly central to the Gold Coast so next time you visit be sure to drop by and say hello.
Vivre a Vie Bakery is at 2364 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach.
They are open Tue-Fri 6am-3pm and Sat-Sun 8am-3pm
This is not a sponsored post, I just really liked it.
