I have been overseas at Christmas time only once before. We were living in Thailand at the time and unable to travel back to Australia to be with family for Christmas. We bought a small tree and made our own decorations. We had family post us tinsel and a few small gifts. We celebrated with other expats at an only-in-Thailand over-the-top buffet at a hotel. We made the most of what we had. It wasn’t the same. It wasn’t Christmas without family. We Skyped home and saw everyone on the small screen, broke the news of my pregnancy and promptly burst into tears. I’m not sure I would spend another Christmas away from home but if I did these are some of the places I might consider travelling to for Christmas around the world.
Wanderlust for Best Places to Celebrate Christmas
Nuremberg – Germany’s famous Christmas Market with mulled wine and roasted almonds would be enchanting.
Napapiiri or Rovaniemi – as I mentioned last week, this is where Santa supposedly lives so of course this would be magical.
Bethlehem – obviously the birth place of Christmas would offer a religious energy to your festivities as would the Vatican City (pictured above).
New York City – on the list because of the countless movies depicting cheesy music, lots of lights, snow and amazing window displays not to mention the Rockefeller centrepiece tree.
Home – wherever you live in the world I think this is the number one place to be for Christmas, unless of course you take all of your family with you!
Wherever you are in the world tonight and tomorrow – Merry Christmas!
Where in the world have you celebrated Christmas?
Where would you love to see at Christmas time?
