Lulabelle Lifestyle

This week’s guest for Friday Favourites is Lucy from Lulabelle Lifestyle. Lucy blogs about fashion, travel, books and food from her new home in Singapore and is definitely worth a read. I tell you, when I am next in Singapore Lucy is going to be my go to for everything! I wrote a guest post for Lucy in October about travelling in the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia and am very pleased to introduce you to her today.

FRIDAY

I was thrilled when Malinda asked me to guest post for her this week in her always-entertaining ‘Friday Favourites’ feature. I was lucky enough to have Malinda guest post for me and now I am happy that I can return the favour.

‘What are your five favourite things?’ Such a simple question but one, which requires quite a bit of thought. There are many things in this world that I love but narrowing it down to my all time favourites is tricky. So after some careful thought (chocolate can’t be all of them can it?!) here they are:

1. Photography

Over the past year I have re-discovered my passion for photography. I just love it. The idea of capturing something, which I perceive to be beautiful, and turning that image into a tangible object fascinates me.

I love all types of photography but my favourite at the moment is snapping food. All kinds of food really. Whether that be a runny egg, steam wafting out of a freshly cooked pie or the icing dripping off a cake. Using my macro lense to capture the finite detail of my current dish is so much fun.

2. Travel

Travel is always something I have loved and known with an outright certainty that it was something I wanted to embrace in life.

Now living in Singapore, I am lucky enough to be able to island hop around Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, all no more than a couple of hours away on a plane. And being this side of the world I am close to some far flung and to me truly exotic places like Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand. All of which I cannot wait to explore.

Whilst it can be hard living this far away from home, the opportunity to explore and discover new places softens the blow and is something I want to fulfill before moving back to the UK.

3. Cooking

This year I set myself a challenge as a sort of New Year resolution to try a new recipe every couple of weeks, as I wanted this to be a realistic objective. So far ten months into my challenge I feel successful. I probably haven’t tried as many as I wanted to but I feel I have given it a good shot and have become a better cook in the process, which was my aim so onwards and upwards.

4. Reading

Book Hangover

Reading is probably my most consistent favourite thing. I find it is like an old friend you have known forever who is always there for you, dependable and whilst not always what you expect they can always teach you new things.

Since I can remember I have always loved reading. I love the feeling of getting totally engrossed in a good book where you literally cannot wait to find out what happens next. As I have gotten older I have come to realize that books like that, where you literally cannot think of anything else, are a true gift. How many books do you read which you like, find entertaining but struggle to recall what happened a few weeks later? In my case, lots. That’s not necessarily a bad thing; I still cherish the enjoyment from them but not in the same intense nature as some other stories. A bit like people really.

So finding a great new book, exquisitely written, demonstrating a new point of view is still one of my favourite things.

5. Learning something new everyday

Everyday is a School Day (1)

Which brings me onto my fifth favourite thing. Now I could have said cake here or chocolate or my love of New York but I realized there is one thing, which encompasses most of what I do. That is my love for learning.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not dying to get back into a classroom and study some more. I’ve done enough of that, 25 years to be exact! But I really love learning new skills, facts, hobbies, anything really! My favourite types of books are those set in history where I can learn about the Second World War, the Tudors or Ancient Egyptians, my cooking challenge was a way of learning more about how to cook and even my passion for photography is in part due to my eagerness to learn a new skill and enjoy myself in the process.

So there you have it my five favourite things and a little insight into what makes me, well me!
