One Word

As 2014 came to a close I read Maxabella Loves answers to 10 deceptively simple questions and was prompted to think of one word to encapsulate my 2015 hopes and dreams.

I’ve never done this ‘one word’ before so I didn’t start 2014 with a word, but looking back on it I can see that it was an epic year and I think my word was ‘believe‘. I had to find my self-belief and have the confidence to move forward with my blog ideas which so far are paying off. I had to believe in our dream to own a house and we now own our own small patch of earth and home. I had to guide my girls to believe, to be brave, to trust themselves and set out to conquer the world every day. At the end of the year, with so much drama in world news, I chose to believe that the world is mostly a good place, that the glass is half full, that life is good. Believe.

believe
/bI’li:v/
verb
1.accept that (something) is true, especially without proof. “the superintendent believed Lancaster’s story”
synonyms: be convinced by, trust, have confidence in, consider honest, consider truthful

2. hold (something) as an opinion; think. “I believe we’ve already met”

synonyms: think, be of the opinion that, think it likely that, have an idea that, imagine, feel, have a feeling, hold, maintain, suspect, suppose, assume, presume, conjecture, surmise, postulate that, theorize that, conclude, come to the conclusion that, deduce; understand, be given to understand, take it, gather, fancy, guess, dare say; figure

Considering the year ahead and everything that I want for 2015 I have decided on my one word for the 12 months that lay ahead of me:

enough.

I did ponder on happy but I already know that everything I do is directed at my happiness and the happiness of those around me. I also thought about simple but again, it is something that I already try to incorporate into my life.

I am Enough.

To be confident in myself and not push beyond my limits. Not to say that I will not strive for things and that I will push my boundaries, but to know when to stop overwhelming myself, to stop the self pressure to do everything for everyone.

I have Enough.

To remember that ‘stuff’ isn’t important. To try and continue to live by sustainable living principles and improve on this.

Enough is Enough.

To say no cramming my calendar full every day, to fill it with quality not quantity. To limit the daily clutter.

To Question Enough.

To question whether have I done enough towards my goals, have I tried hard enough, have I run far enough, have I had enough screen time, have I eaten enough?

enough
/I’n^f/
determiner & pronoun:
1. as much or as many as required. Used to indicate that one is unwilling to tolerate any more of something undesirable.
synonyms: sufficient, adequate, ample, abundant, as much as necessary, the necessary, informal: plenty of “have we enough food?”

adverb:
1. to the required degree or extent (used after an adjective, adverb, or verb). To a moderate degree; fairly.
synonyms: sufficiently, adequately, amply, satisfactorily, passably, tolerably, reasonably, fairly, “in large enough numbers”

While this comes at a time of new year resolutions and people setting goals and wanting to change themselves. This isn’t really that. This is the one word I want to use to remind myself throughout the year to make more of an effort to achieve my goals and to not push myself too hard. This is my growth word, my learning word, my challenge word, my one word. Enough.
