Wanderlust Waterfalls
The Best Waterfalls in the World
For this weeks wanderlust I got thinking about some of the best waterfalls in the world. The top 4 are pretty easy to think of and I am lucky enough to have actually not only seen Victoria Falls, but I white water rafted down the Zambezi in its wake. It was amazing, death defying and a once in a lifetime opportunity I do not regret doing. Here is my Wanderlust Waterfalls list.
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe & Zambia
The largest waterfall in the world! Not the highest, or the widest but combined it has the largest sheet of falling water.
Angel Falls , Venezuela
The tallest waterfall in the world. This waterfall is so high that some of the water even evaporates before it reaches the bottom!
Niagara Falls, United States & Canada
The best view isn’t from either country but is apparently from the water, but prepare to get wet
Iguazu Falls, Argentina & Brazil
This is actually a network of 275 falls across 2 miles. The popular ‘Devil’s Throat’ section plummets with such force that the spray looks like it is shooting up from the pools below.
So there are my top four, and here are 4 more I would love to see:
Ban Gioc – Detian Falls, Vietnam & China
This is the 4th largest waterfall on a national border and it’s thunder can be heard from afar. It is disputed whether it is 2 separate falls, though during summer rains they often join to make one fall.
Plitvice Falls, Croatia
The intense turquoise colour of the water, the labyrinth of trails and thousands of falls are reasons enough to put this one on the list.
Sutherland Falls, New Zealand
This waterfall gets a steady supply of rain most days of the year and is (i’m told) best seen by hiking the Milford Track.
Yosemite Falls, United States
The combination of the three tiered fall and the surrounding granite cliffs and giant trees make it very striking.
Have you visited any of these waterfalls or can you recommend waterfalls that I should have on this list?
