These delicious little snacks are like mini bliss balls in a way and make the perfect healthy bite sized sweet for the kids, and let’s not joke around – the grown ups too! This is less a recipe and more of an inspiring idea I suppose but either way you look at it, this is so easy and tasty that it doesn’t matter.
Grab whatever dried fruit you have in your pantry cupboard and soak it in a small amount of boiling water while you have a cup of tea. Once it is all soft and squishy just blitz it to a mush. Roll the mixture into small balls, about the size of a macadamia nut or a giant pea. Then roll the small bite sized balls in your choice of coating to give it an extra boost of flavour and to stop them sticking to everything.
Here are three flavours that I made:
Date & Coconut
Soak you dates to soften them before blitzing to a paste then cover your little balls in a layer of fine dessicated coconut. These bite sized sweets taste just like chocolate or a little rum-less rum ball.
Apricot & Oats
Simply blitz your softened dried apricots, roll into balls and then in some crushed rolled oats. You can make the oats as fine as you like. This turns out like a sweet jube lolly and is juicy and delicious.
Fig & LSA
I love this one. Blitz your softened dried figs, roll and coat in ground LSA (linseed sunflower almond mix). My girls said that this flavour crackles like popping candy in your mouth which is a fun. Because of the nuts we reserve this one for at home but you could easily roll it in something different.
My girls think these are like lollies or treats because they are so sweet. They are perfect to add something sweet to their lunchbox, pop in a trail mix for a trip to the park or you can hide a few in your desk drawer for when that afternoon slump hits. This is a quick and easy healthy option to have on hand that will give you a natural sugar hit without the guilt.
