Sugar and Spice Flavoured Nuts

After the outpouring of love that people had for the candied pecans that went on top of my Classic Carrot Cake I thought that this recipe for flavoured nuts would go down a treat. It is pretty easy to make your own flavoured nuts at home, but can be disastrous because they are extremely addictive and delicious.

These are just the right balance of sweet and salty and are the perfect snack to satisfy pretty much any craving, at any time of the day. These are my Sugar and Spice Candied Nuts. Quick and easy, you can be sitting down to munch on a bowl of these within half an hour.

Sugar and Spice Flavoured Nuts

Ingredients

1/3 cup brown sugar
¼ teaspoon ground pepper
¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
400g unsalted mixed nuts (about 2 cups)
1 tablespoon sea salt
1 tablespoon icing sugar (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 170C.
  2. Mix together your sugar, pepper, paprika and cinnamon.
  3. Add your nuts and mix to coat each nut evenly.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon of water and mix until all of your nuts are deliciously shiny and coated in your sticky mix.
  5. Spread on a baking tray lined with baking paper and sprinkle (to taste) with sea salt
  6. Bake in the oven, stirring every 5 minutes so they don’t stick together and they get all toasty on all sides. Bake until golden and dry/crispy. This took about 15-20 minutes.
  7. While still warm sift 1 tablespoon of icing sugar over the top and stir again. (optional layer of delicious sweetness)
  8. Leave to cool before storing in an airtight container. Consume within 1 week, but good luck with them lasting that long! We were into ours before they even cooled down!
