Wanderlust Camping

Camping conjures up images of snuggling up with blankets by an open fire toasting marshmallows and staring at the stars or running around barefoot in the sunshine all day and falling asleep with the salt water from the surf still on your skin and sand in your hair.

Wanderlust Camping

There can often be a lot of debate over what exactly counts as camping. Technically it is holidaying outside in a tent, but it could be extended to any temporary shelter. So whether you are in a tent, caravan, swag or glamping it is a great and (usually) inexpensive idea to get outdoors and surround yourself with nature and switch off (or not). I think I hit somewhere in the middle of survivalist (nothing but your boots) and glamper (everything, including the kitchen sink).

Before we get realistic with some inexpensive close to home options, let’s look at some amazing camping spots across the world. These are a few that I would love to do:

A campervan around New Zealand is high on my camping wanderlust, possibly because it is a realistic option.

Hiking and camping in Peru, with a donkey of course.

Somewhere like Jasper National Park in Canada with hot springs, waterfalls, glaciers and mountains, where you can kayak, find wildlife, fish and hike.

How about a real life TeePee on an Indian Reservation?

Or perhaps tree camping like these ones in Germany.

Wow! Now, back to reality. Australia has endless camping options and we are spoilt for choice - from Queensland’s beaches to New South Wales with its great national parks, from the Red Centre to Tasmania’s rainforests. There are 2 reasons why we often only travel a few hours from home when we camp, because it is supposed to be a cheap holiday so we save on petrol costs and secondly because we have kids who get restless in the car if the trip is too long. This works well for us though because it means we can have a quick weekend getaway whenever we want. A couple of top options for us are Yamba as a very family friendly option with easy access, or north to anywhere along the Sunshine Coast strip. I’d also love to camp out at Ayers Rock and at Daintree Rainforest when the girls are happy to travel a bit longer.

Wanderlust camping can have something for everyone. For this weeks travel wanderlust I want to know what are the best camping spots you have been to or that you want to go to?
