Chocolate Pumpkin Bread

Chocolate Pumpkin Bread Served

I’m not going to sugar coat it for you. I made a big mess in the kitchen when I baked this chocolate pumpkin bread. I used lots of bowls and mixers and spoons. I spilled flour and cocoa and just generally made a mess. I had little people hovering in the kitchen trying to sift the flour, lick the bowl and tip the ingredients in. But when the scent of fresh baking started wafting from the kitchen I truly didn’t care. And when we ate it, all thoughts of the mess disappeared. Now I’m not saying that you will make a mess when you bake this recipe but I’m not saying its a neat and tidy experience either.

I deliberated for a while on what to call this recipe, because to be honest it is a mix between a bread and a cake. I could have called it a breake or perhaps cade or crad … but it all got very confusing. Let’s just get clear that while I have called it a bread and you bake it in a loaf pan and slice it like a loaf of bread, it is mostly cake like. Now that I have pointlessly rambled on enough about what it is and isn’t, let’s get to the actual recipe.

  3. In another bowl combine your flour, baking soda and salt.
  4. Whisk your butter mixture into your flour mixture. Add greek yoghurt and pumpkin puree and stir until combined.
  5. Separate your mixture in half and add cocoa to one of your bowls.
  6. Add your batter to your baking pan one large spoonful at a time, alternating between your pumpkin and chocolate mixtures. Use a knife to swirl the batter around a little bit.
  7. Bake for 50 minutes or until your cake tester comes out clean. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes before removing it from the pan.
